Alcohol Related Crimes
Data suggests that engaging in prolonged drinking or binge drinking can significantly increase your risk of committing a crime
What Are Alcohol-Related Crimes?
Alcohol abuse can lead to criminal activities and violence. Excessive drinking can lower inhibitions, impair judgement and increase aggressive behaviors. Today, alcohol-related violence and crime are on the rise throughout the USA and around the world.
Over the past many years, doctors and researchers have researched the relationship between alcohol, drugs and crime. Results show that excessive drinking or binge drinking increases one’s risk of committing offense, and drinking alcohol excessively can change one’s life in an instant. Not only one can jeopardize one’s future, but one is also putting others in danger. Criminal activities come with severe consequences such as serving a sentence, legal fees and other penalties.
Many individuals who have served time in jail have committed alcohol-related crimes. Offenses range from minor to serious and include stealing, spouse abuse, committing rape, driving while intoxicated, assault and murder. Many of the inmates who are sentenced for violent offenses were drunk during the time of their crime. Many of them had an blood alcohol content (BAC) level of more than three times the legal limit at the time of their arrest.
